Top Ten Ghanaian Musicians

Music is an art. Music entertains, inform and educate people. I love music and it is one of my favorite things. Humans cannot do without music in their daily activities. Every country, town or city has a group of musicians who entertains them with music every now and then.

There are different types of music genres including highlife, hip-life, hiphop, gospel, jazz, country-music, reggae, RnB, dancehall,cools, among others. I personally love gospel, highlife, hip-life, dancehall, RnB, music genres. I can listen to music all day at anytime in any place.

My country Ghana has thousands of musicians with about a hundred big artists and thousands of upcoming musicians struggling to breakthrough to be in the top. There has been a shift in how underground musicians have been breaking through to the top. It is easier to break through the music industry than it was years ago. With the advent of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, especially TikTok etc,  it has become very easy to get a big song. TikTok is really pushing musicians across the globe especially upcoming musicians who until TikTok, stood no chance to getting a global song as soon as possible.

The top ten Ghanaian musicians are as follows;

Samini- is my all time favorite musician. I admire the works of several musicians including Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Becca, MzVee, Adina, among others but Samini is the musician I have been a fan of for more than fifteen years. Samini has been one of the most popular and consistent Ghanaian artists. He has survived generations with his music and he is still relevant. He has done more programs than most Ghanaian musicians. Samini has been publicly crowned as the best music performer of our generation after Amakye Dede and Kojo Antwi. Samini is the best among his colleagues in terms of performance. None of them comes closer hence the reason why he continue to get shows to perform after years without a big song. Samini is almost twenty years in the game. Samini has being an ambassador for MTN, FBN Bank, and several other companies. He was the face of MTN sim and scratch cards for years at the peak of his career. Samini has developed talents who are now top artists. These talents include Stonebwoy, Kaakie and Kofi Kinaata.

Sarkodie- is the second most successful Ghanaian musician with years of consistency in artistry. He has been active in the music business for more than twelve years. Sarkodie is the third Ghanaian artist to get an international nomination. He is also the first Ghanaian musician to get nominated for this international nomination twice. Five years ago, Sarkodie was nominated by Forbes as one of Africa’s most bankable artists.

Shatta Wale – is a case study in the Ghanaian music industry when it comes musicians who went on a hiatus and came back stronger. Shatta Wale came into the music scene twenty years ago with a song ‘Bandana’. After a year with that song, he went on a music break and Ghanaians never heard from him for more than five years. In 2012, Shatta Wale resurfaced with a new song called ‘like my thing’. He is the only Ghanaian musician to have completely retired from music and come back to become bigger than he was previously.

In 2019, Shatta Wale got the opportunity to work with the world’s best female musician, Beyonce. It was a proud moment for Shatta Wale, his family, management team and the country. He has gotten several nominations and awards over the years.

Stonebwoy- is one of the talents that music legend Samini helped become professional musician. Stonebwoy has grown to become one of Ghana’s biggest artists. Stonebwoy is also an international award winner. He has become this big reggae dancehall icon in Ghana and Africa. His song ‘Sobolo’ is one of my favorites.

Becca- is the most successful female Ghanaian musician. Becca started music about fifteen years ago with manager, Kiki Banson. Initially, she debut her music career journey on TV3’s Mentor, Ghana’s most popular and biggest music reality show. The show lined up talents who are naturally gifted in music. Becca was part of the second season but she quit  and started her music professionally when she met ace Ghanaian music gatekeeper, Kiki Banson. I think Becca has been one of the most consistent and successful musicians in Ghana. She really went far with music.

MzVee- is the first Ghanaian female to have gotten an international nomination. MzVee started music years ago. She has been a very successful musician and I think her former record label, Lynx Entertainment, should be commended for that. Almost every song released by her is a big song. MzVee has really got the talent. MzVee started doing music professionally when she was in the university at level two hundred.

Kuami Eugene- is a versatile Ghanaian musician and I like his energy and consistency. Kuami Eugene has been doing music for a few years now and he was adjudged the best musician in 2020 at the Ghana Music Awards. He is currently in the same label as another great musician called Kofi.

Kofi- is a great Ghanaian musician and is currently the best Ghanaian artist as said by the Ghana Music awards. Kofi is also versatile and sings in different music genres such as rnb, highlife, hiplife,among others.

Gyakie – is the biggest female Ghanaian musician at the moment. She became the first Ghanaian musician to be under Sony Music and she is really making it in the music industry.

Wendy- at a point was the best and most popular female Ghanaian musician. She is very talented and I admire her hardwork and consistent. Wendy has always been passionate about her music career
