Becoming a Blogger

A blogger is basically someone who share his or her opinion on a blog.

Blogging has been around for decades since the invention of the internet and social media. I love to write, so the instinct to create a blog and start blogging came naturally to me. The ability to pick a topic of your choice from any niche such as entertainment, lifestyle, education, sports, fashion, etc and blog about it makes blogging more fun and interesting to me. I started my blogging career in 2013 in Ghana, a time where bloggers were a few, and it was male dominated. I was the first female at that time to start entertainment blogging in Ghana. Blogging for almost a decade now is such an achievement and I am glad that I made the decision to start my personal lifestyle blog on WordPress blog nine years ago. The steps to take in becoming a blogger is very easy in recent times.

Firstly, to become a blogger, you need to draw a plan on whether you want to start a blog on a direct platform like blogspot or WordPress or to buy your own custom domain and hosting to start your blog.

Secondly, you have to decide on the niche that you want to blog about. The niche could be entertainment, sports, fashion, lifestyle, among others. You can decide to and combine all the niches and blog about them. After drawing your plan on paper or laptop, execute your plan to blogger or WordPress and sign up, that is, if you choose to start your blog on these direct platforms. If you choose to buy your own custom domain, then go to Namecheap or Godaddy and buy your preferred domain name. The domain name could be based on your personal name or company name.

Thirdly, buy your hosting plan from Ipage, Godaddy, Namecheap, Dreamhost, Bluehost, Hostgator, etc. As a beginner, I suggest that you buy a starter plan, and upgrade to premium plan as you become experienced. After buying your domain and hosting plan, point your domain name to your hosting platform and create the blog or website. This can all be done within some few hours.

Lastly, be consistent with updates on your blog. Post at least twice a week, if not daily. I post daily on my blog and you can too. Promote your blog on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, Telegram, TikTok, among others. You can also promote your blog on traditional media platforms such as television, radio, etc.

Blogging can be profitable if you take it seriously and do it full time.
