The Guinness World Records is a record system that seeks to reward and celebrate people with the highest wins in any thing. Anyone from any country can apply to break a record and win that record until someone attempts to break it again, and the cycle continues.
Last month, a broadcast journalist by name Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, announced in Ghana that the Guinness World Records had accepted her application to break the longest singing marathon record, thus to sing continuously in five days for 120 hours. Ghanaians were happy and intrigued, especially following Hilda Baci’s feat where all Ghanaians supported her.
Ghanaians immediately threw their support behind Afua Asantewaa Aduonum to go for the win.
Afua Asantewaa, 35, began singing on December 24,2023 and officially broke the longest singing marathon by an individual on December 28, 2023. Her ambition was doubted by some few celebrities namely Akwasi Aboagye and Zapp Mallet, who criticized and discouraged her that she cannot do it. The critics as of yesterday, has publicly apologized to her for their negative comments.
A lot of Ghanaians tripped in to the Akwaaba Village in Accra to support Afua Asantewaa, including the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Among the celebrities who also graced the occasion are Nana Ama Mcbrown, Kidi, Samini, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Sista Afia, Asamoah Gyan, Stephen Appiah, Stonebwoy, Cuna Soul, Abiana, Berra Mundi, among others.
Ghanaian celebrities occasionally can support an initiative that people are supporting. A celebrity in Ghana sees that the populace is supporting a particular thing, they will also follow to gain more fans.
Afua Asantewaa has indeed surprised everyone including those close to her who believed in her dream of breaking the longest singing marathon by an individual. She has within a few days gained fame and attention and the rest depends on what she does with the fame and attention granted to her by this achievement.
Afua has always been a creative person. In school, she used to be a basketball player and won trophies. She has also participated in one of Ghana’s prestigious television programs, Ghana’s Most Beautiful. Afua Asantewaa Aduonum is also an event organizer and she is currently the brain behind a beauty pageant in Ghana.
This record set by Afua Asantewaa is not only beneficial to her but to the entire country. This is the first ever Guinness World Record made by a Ghanaian living in the country and we are all very proud and happy for this great achievement.
