Reflecting on My Recent Experiences

As I grow, my life becomes more and more about living, and also more and more about loving myself to enable me live on my own terms.

I define myself as a minimalist and I purposefully create experiences with friends and family to ensure my life is fun-packed, unique and also have chops of wonderful experiences.

In the last few years, I have dedicated my resources to living. That means, majority of my income goes into creating experiences instead of acquiring material things.

By whatever you will call it, I have friends and family who have material things in abundance and I get to enjoy these if required. So why bother?

These days, it is either I am meeting a friend or family for a conversation at lunch in London, or I am on a solo trip to Paris or I am spending the weekend with friends in Qatar or Cyprus or I will be with m husband in a dune ride. It has been both thrilling and fulfilling for me.

Interestingly, I have seen my career as a lawyer boom on the back of the happiness I have found in the lifestyle I have intentionally created and that has also seen a notable growth in my income.

I am surrounded by very interesting persons and we seem to share in the collective concept of “living life on our terms”.

Anokye Asare, Phd, remains a friend for over two decades and his move to Ghana has enabled us to spend even more time together than we did in the U.K. This has been my life.

Today, I am on an STC bus with a bunch of strangers who have in the last few weeks become my friends and will probably remain in my life for long, and we are heading to Elmina and Cape Coast for a day tour.

As someone who stayed in Cape Coast for about 3 years during my studies at Adisadel College, this trip brings memories and reminds me of where I began to take interest in shaping and forming ideas.

When I envisaged that for each weekend of December 2023, I am going to have an interesting gathering with a selected women and men on the back of my “Soft Life” idea, I knew it was going to be expensive but I also knew that when I am 70 years and probably stuck in a care home or in a cottage on the back of the benevolence of my offspring, it is such memories that would keep me smiling or give me stories to share with my grandchildren.

I always say, I want to be the old man with true life stories to tell my grandchildren, and share with them what I saw when I visited the Pyramids in Egypt or the Shanghai Museum in China or the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.

From the Movie Night to the Games Night and the Bikini Pool Party, I have had fun and conversations that I would not forget this December.

We are off to explore Elmina and Cape Coast, and the memories created with these interesting and brave old and new friends will live with me forever.

The haters and those without a life can continue to dwell in their talks and hate on social media, while we will continue to live, and make a point to cherish these experiences.
