I had Breakfast With An Uber Drive At Osu-Accra

Uber driver service started working in Ghana about eight years ago, and they started operations in Accra initially. As time went by and the business became better in Accra, the owners extended their services to other cities like Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale, Cape Coast, Takoradi, etc.

Like any other business in Ghana, there are some positives and negatives in terms of human resource. There are some attitudes of some drivers that customers normally complain about. One Uber driver that I took gave me a wonderful service and I decided to give him a treat by having breakfast with him.

Last night, I was reminded of a meeting I have this morning at Labone in Accra with a client.

A few days ago, I had picked an Uber and the driver was gentle and his car was clean. It is one of those small Suzuki Spresso and it has air condition.

That is all a minimalist like me want for transportation so I took the driver’s number and said whenever I have a place to go, I will call him to pick me up.

Therefore, I called him last night to be pick me up at 8am for my meeting.

At 7:45, he called to inform me that he had arrived at my end. That was impressive. A Ghanaian driver is on time without any excuse of there being traffic.

While my meeting was at 10am, we got to Labone way before 9am and so I told him we should go and have some breakfast together instead of waiting in the car.

I was on phone with a friend who suggested I should try Frankies breakfast at Osu, so we ended up there.

When he parked, I told him to let us go upstairs and he was shocked. We sat by the window at Frankies, to see Osu’s Oxford Street take shape for another busy day.

I ordered a full American Breakfast and asked him to try the same but he wanted to order just a sandwich.

I told him to forget about the price and go out large.

As we waited for our food, I spoke to him about life and the importance of honesty. I also told him to start a Coding Course, and that as a man, he needs to focus on building himself and his finances, or else he will have a tough life.

Israel was on the news so I spoke to him about my visit to Israel and how beautiful the people and the country are.

The entire bill came to about 400 GHS.

If you are travelling to Ghana and you need an Uber driver, let me know and I will give you this man’s number.
